CHAMPION CHEER CENTRAL

GAME DAY DIVISION INFORMATION

The grade of the competitor for the 2019 – 2020 academic year will be the grade used for competition purposes throughout the 2019 – 2020 season for all divisions. All members of the team must be current members of the official school team and on all official team rosters.

GAME DAY PERFORMANCE GUIDELINES

Total Routine Time: Maximum 3:00 (no minimum time)

**Will not be judged on transition to and from each category.

  •  Game Day Routines showcase traditional crowd leading. Teams will be scored on their ability to lead the crowd, proper game day skill incorporation/performance, motion/dance and overall routine.
  • Routine performance will follow this order: Band Chant, Situational sideline into Cheer, Fight Song. The sideline and cheer section will be defined as the Crowd Leading Portion of the routine.
  • The use of crowd leading tools such as signs, poms, flags and/or megaphones is encouraged.
  • The incorporation of skills (stunts and tumbling) are only allowed during the fight song, sideline and cheer.  Stunts and Tumbling are not allowed in the BAND DANCE or as a transition before/between sections, this includes entry and exit from the performance surface.
  • The Band Dance should have an emphasis on crowd appeal and practicality – No stunts or tumbling permitted however jumps and kicks will be allowed.
  • Following completion of the band dance, there will be no announcement of a game situation. Teams can perform any game situation chant they choose which transitions the squad into the crowd leading portion.
  • Teams in the Game Day Non-Mount Division will not be permitted to build any stunts at any time during the performance. Teams registered in this division that build any stunts will be moved to the “Game Day” division.
  • Each section should have a beginning and end. Note: Spirited crowd leading interaction between each section is encouraged to continue the game day feel.
  • Traditional cheer uniforms are required. No costumes and/or specialty/themed uniforms are
  • Props permitted are poms, signs (including flags with words/letters) and megaphones. These items are highly encouraged to better enhance the cheer’s overall effect. Hint: The more props incorporated the better for effective crowd
  • Props must be physically used if placed within the performance
  • No “gimmicks” (i.e. confetti, balls, candy, etc.) are permitted nor permitted to be thrown into the audience at any time before, during or after the
  • When entering the performance area, teams should simply walk onto the floor and immediately prepare to begin their Game Day category (in this order) – Band Chant,  Game situational sideline chant into Crowd Leading Cheer and Fight Song.
  • Timing will begin with the first organized word or movement, whichever comes
  • No person(s) is permitted to enter/run onto the performance floor at the completion of the routine. This includes coaches.

 

GAME DAY: Criteria

 

BAND DANCE/CHANT

Perform your traditional school band cheer that all of your fans have come to know at every game, pep rally and alumni gathering. This should have an emphasis on crowd appeal. No Stunts or tumbling are permitted in this section however, jumps and kicks are encouraged. Signs, poms, megaphones, etc. are permitted.

  • Routine should be performed to your team’s recorded band version/music used at your games- this includes any type of band song or band cheer (ie. Let’s go Cats!)
  • NO STUNTS OR TUMBLING ARE PERMITTED IN THIS SECTION

 

SIDELINE

Display your very best using any “Defense”, “Offense” or “General” Sideline that raises fan spirit. We encourage you to keep the words short, simple and easy to follow yet impactful enough for a true game situation. Note: Signs, poms, megaphones, flags, etc. are permitted for added appeal.

  • Building/mounting skills are permitted in Mount Divisions and follow NFHS Spirit Safety
  • Standing tumbling skills are permitted in Tumbling Divisions and follow NFHS Spirit Safety

 

CROWD LEADING CHEER

Showcase your crowd leading ability by executing a crowd oriented cheer incorporating skills and props that are practical and best suited to lead your crowd in a given time-out situation. Go full out with by incorporating poms, signs, megaphones, flags or anything else that effectively communicates and encourages crowd participation at its finest! (See below lists for each category skills limitations)

  • Cheer should reflect a crowd leading style cheer with emphasis on crowd participation and should contain call-backs that would solicit crowd involvement in a game/time-out
  • Building/mounting skills are permitted in Mount Divisions and follow NFHS Spirit Safety
  • Standing tumbling skills are permitted in Tumbling Divisions and follow NFHS Spirit Safety

 

FIGHT SONG

Execute your traditional fight song to a recorded version provided by your band that showcases your outstanding motion technique, spirit and enthusiasm just like you do at any game! Fight song incorporation is limited to 3 consecutive 8 – counts of stunts and/or tumbling. If the fight song repeats, the incorporation will only be allowed both times if it is repeated exactly the same both times. Counting will begin with the first initiation of a skill and continue until wither the incorporation is complete or the end if the 3rd count of 8.

Note: Poms are suggested for use.

  • Routine should be performed to the team’s/school recorded fight
  • Building/mounting skills are permitted in Mount Divisions and follow NFHS Spirit Safety
  • Standing tumbling skills are permitted in Tumbling Divisions and follow NFHS Spirit Safety

 

ADDITIONAL SKILL RESTRICTIONS:

• No Tosses (basket, sponge or elevator) are allowed.
• No Inversions are allowed.
• No Twisting Dismounts are allowed.
• Single leg stunts are limited to liberties and liberty hitches.
• No Running Tumbling is allowed.
• Standing Tumbling is limited to one tumbling skill and a back tuck is the most elite tumbling skill allowed
